Gail Riggins

Gail Riggins has wanted to be an artist since she was six years old, but life had other plans. Her formal education was in Graphic Design, Public Relations, and Marketing, and she worked in those fields for the better part of 45 years. Ten years ago, her pastor, who was also an artist, encouraged her to pursue her artistic dreams, and she was soon attending workshops wherever she could. One such class was a water mixable oil painting class at the Figgie Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. When the class concluded, she started looking for more classes in the medium and found none. An acrylic artist teaching at Bereskin Gallery in Bettendorf, Iowa welcomed her to his class. After recognizing Gail’s passion and talent for oil painting, he recommended that she consider talking to an oil painter who was also a Bereskin Gallery instructor. It was there that she found the art academy-style instruction she longed for and felt a connection with. Gail is an emerging artist who considers herself to be a tonalist. Her medium of choice is water-mixable oils. The current direction of her work consists of experimenting with glazing techniques to create landscapes that invoke emotions about and memories of glowing sunsets, quiet streams, misty mornings, and warm summer days celebrating the endless wonder of God’s creation.
